Birthday Meeting This coming Thursday, November 17

Our annual Birthday meeting is coming up this Thursday and will be celebrated with our usual panache - a great speaker and cake!

Our speaker is Melissa Hughes of Changeling Coloured Yarns, and she is bringing her wonderful yarns for us to buy!

There was a little confusion about which birthday it was this year. The Guild was formed in 1992, so it should be our 30th, but we celebrated our 25th in 2018, which makes our 30th in 2023.

The committee decided that it must have been that the 25th celebrated the anniversary on the incorporated association; and that because we had the Quilt Exhibition this year, we will celebrate our 30th anniversary in 2023.

Christmas Meeting Saturday December 10

Our last Guild meeting for the year will be on December 10. As usual we will have no speaker, but we are going to have a special Christmas Market for any of our members who are Traders. ( Traders:Please book asap, and definitely by Dec 1).

Everyone needs to provide their own main course for lunch, but Committee will provide some tasty treats for dessert!

Although there will be no further Guild meetings until February, we will continue to meet every Thursday.

Christmas Guild Meeting

On December 10, we held the first Guild meeting for a very long time! Although we had to do QR codes and show vaccination status, there was no density limit and no mask requirement – almost freedom! We had fewer people at the tables, and with a total of 55 people at the meeting, the hall felt pleasantly full without being crowded. There was no diminution in the noise as everyone caught up -some with people they hadn’t seen for 2 years!

Naturally, every member present, received a gift: a very useful reel of sewing thread. And after our BYO lunch there were some very yummy treats! (Thanks to Nadine Renshaw for doing the shopping!)

NOTYQ will be open every Thursday all day (Omicron has now seen the need for masks). We thanked Joan for her work in keeping us updated with Council requirements for COVID marshals, and for Joan and Wendy for their work in doing the marshalling and keeping NOTYQ open as much as could be done.

Robyn Cuthbertson talked briefly about the new Activities sub-committee and what they have planned for the coming year. More will be coming out about this in January.

During Lockdown, while NOTYQ stopped meeting, the Community Quilt ladies didn’t stop meeting and we have an oversupply of quilts. Jackie talked briefly about “Quilts for Orphans” and we were going to ask them to come and talk to the Community Quilt Ladies but with mask requirements now in, this may have to wait a while.

During Lockdown, a defibrillator has been installed in the First Aid Room. Hopefully we should never need to use it, and it is supposed to be very easy to use. But we may organise someone to instruct us, at some stage.

The meeting ended as it usually does, with raffle and door prizes, followed by Show and Tell. It was so good to see Quilts etc live; much better than in photos.

Hopefully, Omicron will not get in the way of future Guild meetings and we will see you all on Saturday February 19th at 10.30!

Unfortunately our lovely lady from the Woolly Butt is unable to attend our July meeting due to ill health but instead we have Jay Brooks coming all the way from Romsey to talk to us.

For those who went to the "Making the Australian Quilt" Exhibition at the National Gallery, Jay was the maker of Romsey Red Cross Quilt and is now working on researching the names on a WW1 signature quilt. She is very excited about her project and transmits that excitement to those to whom she speaks.
